Lately my favorite web marketing research tool is Flickr. Flickr uses clusters to segment tags into groups. Flickr simply checks which tags are usually used together and groups them. In the case of the word “luxury” something very interesting happens …
We get four clusters:
- Luxury cars. Bentley, Jaguar … Luxury car shows …
- Luxury resorts. Hotels, Dubai, architecture, boat, water …
- Luxury Rolls Royce.
- Luxury France, Paris, Europe
What I find interesting about this clusters is the third one (Rolls Royce) which is showed separately from the first one (cars). Seems like Luxury Rolls Royce is a whole another world in people’s minds. They don’t seem to connect this brand with any other vehicle in the luxury car segment.
If i think about it … Yes. It’s obvious. Rolls Royce sure is something else! There are luxury cars on the market and then there is the Rolls Royce. This is what I call the power of the brand.
Advice: Check your business at Flickr.com! You might figure out what people actually think about it. But beware! All your assumptions might fall …
